the post Industrial area 'ETERNITTEN' in Aalborg is becoming an experimental building site and modern new neighborhood in the city. The Rough and dusty environment at the site with an abandonded eternit production hall is the perfect location for the special program: A street sport mekka. Young people will gather in and around the hall to practice parkour, bouldering, dancing, music, basket, soccer, slackline, CALISTHENICS, arts and crafts as well as to hang out, watch, listen, MEAT, eat and enjoy being a part of the street movement.
The four major activities – 'the stars' - are Parkour, bouldering, dance and basket. They all have their individual identity which the new users can be a part of creating. 'the stars' are gathered around an open flex space for shared use. The activities and flex space continues outdoor to create a connected indoor-outdoor feeling. THE OUTDOOR FACILITIES WILL BE A NATURAL PART OF THE DRAMATIC LANDSCAPE MADE BY INDUSTRIAL EXCAVATIONS IN THE PAST.
Streetmekka with a wide variety of activities can host both professional and amateur athletes. The ground floor space is multifunctional AND can be used for workshops, graffiti, diy, slackline ETC.. AN Event room and A cafe lounge with street food kitchen create lifefull areas connected with the main hall and THE outdoor. A Music zone located next to the DOUBLE HIGH dance hall SUPPORTS DJ'ING and other music production.
the entrance is underlined by A triple high SPACE with A NET, WHERE TO RELAXE above the visitors heads.
THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE HALL WILL BE TRUE TO THE INDUSTRIAL TRACES. THE MAJOR CRANE UNDER THE ROOF, WILL REMAIN RUNNING AND CAN BE USED AS VIEWING PLATFORM AS WELL AS CURTAINS AND ROBES, SWINGS ETC WILL BE HANGING FROM IT.
SMALL INDUSTRIAL DETAILS FROM THE PAST AND ROUGH EXISTING SURFACES OF THE HALL WILL STILL BE VISABLE IN THE FUTURE WITH THE NEW 'LAYERS' OF STREET ACTIVITIES ON TOP.
AALBORG’S STREETMEKKA WILL OPEN IN SPRING 2018. The Street movement 'Game' WILL BE running the facility.
